Sunday 27 September proved to be a fine day for the East Mersea footpath walk, masterminded by Phil Passfield (pictured on the right). Duly briefed and equipped with maps, walkers had a variety of routes of different lengths to choose between.
The day served to promote the Big Pathwatch, a campaign promoted by the Ramblers, to improve footpaths in England and Wales. A new App for smartphones and tablets, downloadable from the Apple App store or from Google play, has been developed, which enables problems (e.g. locked gates, flooded paths or fallen trees) to be reported and photographs to be shared. A web version is also available so that those without a smartphone or tablet can print off a map and upload their findings.

On returning to East Mersea Village Hall, walkers were able to enjoy light refreshments and purchase Society merchandise, as pictured below with Chairman Sarah Shehadeh.
